Event Insurance covers the consequences of unforeseen events disrupting your event. No event insurance (whoever you buy it from) will cover the consequences of a known or existing cause of loss, or a situation which may develop into a loss.

We don't have to tell you that the weather in much of the UK is pretty awful at present, with many people literally snowed in by the earliest winter snow for seventeen years and widespread disruption to road, rail and air transport.

This means that this bout of bad weather is now a known cause of potential loss, so please bear this in mind if you are thinking of buying insurance now - the circumstances may not be covered, depending on when and where the event is taking place.

If you bought your event insurance some time ago, then the current bad weather was not a known circumstance at that time, so you are OK. Also, once the weather returns to seasonal norms, it will cease to be a general existing circumstance, and will be insurable again.

If insurers were to take on an existing cause of loss, it would be rather like insuring a house that was already on fire - not possible.

This situation once again illustrates the importance of planning ahead and buying event insurance early in the event management process.

We will be pleased to answer your questions on this.
